Eureka - All the Rage, S04E03

While people run about like angry bees, determined to murder Fargo (Neil Greyston), the rest of the group who traveled through time to return to an alternate future continue to adjust to the differences their current lives have brought them.

I particularly liked the Henry (Joe Morton)/ Grant (James Callis) storyline. Allowing the two men to bond while Grant dealt with the pain of knowing everything he supposedly did never occurred and that everyone he knew was gone, and while Henry continued to come to terms with his marriage was a perfect calm foil to the rest of the story. And I also love Henry's developing interest in his wife, while he isn't entirely sure how he's supposed to act and does not feel right simply being a husband to her.

Meanwhile, GD was yet again in chaos. Naturally, the plot that interests me most is Zane (Niall Matter) and Jo (Erica Cerra)'s relationship. I loved them together, am loving the renewed sexual tension, and am hoping that I get to watch them rekindle their love. Though watching Tess (Jaime Ray Newman) get her heart broken by a Carter (Colin Ferguson) whom she did not actually know was horrible. I'm still not clear on when Carter decided that he and Tess didn't work, but he can't know that that was also the case in this new world. Plus, if he starts dating Allison (Salli Richardson-Whitfield) any time soon, that would be a complete violation of her friendship with Tess. I wonder if they will eventually succeed in getting things back to normal and what the world will be like then.

At least they managed to stop the rage that had GD in an uproar like a French strike.

Eureka - A New World, S04E02

Eureka's new timeline and changes continue to add new and fantastic dimension and life to a show that I already loved. We remember the original timeline, as do our leads, and so we get to discover the new world as they do, with as much surprise and delight.

Although I am still a little confused over the information lost in what must have been an editing error, I think I've got this clear. Tess (Jamie Ray Newman) and Jack (Colin Ferguson) originally stayed together when she moved to Australia. The relationship stopped functioning over the course of the year she was there, and they broke up. Now, instead of that deterioration, Tess remembers she and Jack being happy in Eureka over that time and Jack's resurfacing feelings for Allison (Salli Richardson-Whitfield) have no place here.

To me it actually seems as though everyone else is better off in this universe. Henry (Joe Morton) is married to a brilliant woman who seems to understand him and his dedication to his work, Jo (Erica Cerra) is no longer deputy but head of security at GD, and Fargo (Neil Grayston) is the head of GD itself. The few difficulties, such as Jo no longer being with Zane (Niall Matter), can actually be overcome. The love they once had, they could have again (and I really hope that does happen).

And despite all the new colour, the premise remains the same. Jack is still forced at the end of the day to save the town from yet another insane project gone wrong.
Love it.

Eureka - Founder's Day, S04E01

OMG I love it. Eureka is hilarious and makes me smile and laugh pretty much all of the time. What a perfect episode to start Season 4. I had forgotten how much I enjoy this show. Syfy does remember how to do the semi-serious, sciency, but really just fun shows, even if Caprica was a wash and Stargate Universe is still finding its feet and taking itself too seriously.

So, yes, the editing error at the start, showing us Tess (Jamie Ray Newman) breaking up with Carter (Colin Ferguson) as part of the recapping, confused me as we started, but otherwise, how terrific. Granted, I am a big history and historic reenactment geek, so both the theme of founder's day and the time travelling were right up my alley, but it was also so perfectly done.

The episode itself, introducing the brilliant Dr. Trevor Grant, played by the charming James Callis, gave us the proper sense of stress and danger which we expect from Eureka, as well as the solving of problems. Yet, it also set up an entire season. Allison (Salli Richardson-Whitfield), Jo (Erica Cerra), Henry (Joe Morton), Fargo (Neil Grayston), and Carter are the only ones who remember the original timeline. Allison is blessed with the return to a son who is suddenly and miraculously not autistic, Jo and Zane (Niall Matter)'s relationship, which peaked in a proposal which Jo didn't quite manage to accept, has suddenly disappeared entirely, Henry has found himself married, and Jack, after having shared a passionate good luck kiss with Allison, finds that he and Tess are still happily together.

How will things move forward, what will happen, can they change things back to the way they were, and do they even want to?

Eureka Season 3 Finale

Well Eureka certainly went out with a bang this season, and I don't just mean because of the explosions and such. The show was back in top form, with the amusing, cheesy and wonderful one liners and jokes, as well as a plot line which was both entertaining and amusing.
Disaster stuck Eureka when Lucas's attempt to prevent the end of the world caused by the reversal of the poles scheduled to occur in 2000 years brought that end-date to the present. He created another magnetic pole in the middle of Eureka. With all metal objects (including an iron-supplement-taking Fargo) flying around the town, Henry, Tess, Lucas and Carter devise a plan and save the town. Yes, the same plot we get almost every episode, but the continual delivery of great lines and reactions so expected and beloved from our heroes keeps us watching.
Carter suffered from start to finish, first discovering his daughter, Zoe, got into Harvard premed a year earlier than expected. Then, Tess, his new love interest, reveals she's gotten a job offer in Australia. This is all in addition to the magnetic issues swirling around Eureka, Zoe's near death when she dove into a pool and it spontaneously caught fire, catching Zoe and Lucas about to do something that no father believes his little girl has ever done (even if she has a baby), and finally being told that his best friend, Henry, gave Zoe the letter of recommendation that will take her so far away.
His declaration after risking his life and saving the town again was the need for a vacation. And perhaps he will take him to go visit his lady, as Tess took the job and moved to Eureka. Zoe also left the town for school, with the promise she would come back to visit.
All in all, a satisfying episode. My favourite line was when Carter said to Tess "I love it when you talk nerdy to me." It will be interesting to see the face of Eureka next summer with season 4. Allison will be back, but Tess and Zoe will be gone...or so it seems.
What did you think of the finale?

Eureka hit an ice patch

Eureka missed the mark a little this week. It's possible this occurred because half our regular cast was missing (Henry was at a conference, Alison was on Mat leave, and Fargo only had some brief appearances but mostly wasn't featured), but I would actually say that it was the writing.
The basic plot - they brought back an ice piece from the arctic and it caused ice to spread everywhere. It was caused by a fungus, and in the end it was fixed in the deus ex machina way that Eureka is known for.
The problem was with Zane. He comes back from the expedition, and he's behaving strangely. Jo keeps commenting on how cold he is. The word is used over and over again, but it takes Jo forever to decide that he's not mad at her or something, but that something is wrong with him. How bad is Jo and Zane's relationship and communication when it takes her so long to realize that he too is encrusted with the ice, though we figured it out the moment he acted strangely and she called him cold.
Also, Zoe has already decided she wants to be a doctor, but when a test tells her to be a robot engineer, Lucas basically coerces her into looking into it. It takes the entire episode for him to decide that maybe what she wants to do is a better path to follow than the one dictated by some stupid test. Geniuses can be so stupid.
The best part of the episode was that Taggart came back. Not only did we learn where he went (he was trekking throughout the world, not just hidden in some lab and ignored for 2 years), but we got to see him and Jo finally resolve that their relationship had been good, but they had both moved on. I love Taggart, and I hope this wasn't just a one episode thing.
Next week is the season finale. I hope things heat up in Eureka, and the plot is explosive, not iced over.

Oh, and I apologize for all the puns.
